SMOOTH YULE…Michael Lington: A Foreign Affair Christmas, Dave Koz: Gifts of the Season

Two albums big on rhythm and red and green.

Michael Lington plays alto and teno sax with a wide range of guests including Russ Freeman, Vince Gill, Shelea, Dave Koz and Philippe Saisse on this upbeat collection of carols. Gill is richly toned and Eagleesque on “This Christmas” while Koz teams up to lock horns on a joyful medly of “Winter Wonderland/Let It Snow.” Saisse brings good vies to “Last Christmas” and a warm “Silent Night” glistens with Braun’s horn. Polished candles that shine.

Dave Koz brings his upbeat reeds to sparkle like a star on top of the Christmas tree on this album on stocking stuffers. Jonathan Butler is cheerful as he sings “It’s Beginning To Look A Lot Like Christmas” while his “This Christmas” is a kiss under mistletoe, with CHirs Walker’s “Mary Did You Know” is rich and reflective. All throughout Koz is in a celebrative mood, with his alto sparklin on “Winter Wonderland” and his soprano resplendent in a meditative “A Prayer For Peace”. A smooth ride on the sleigh.
