Keyboardist David Rodgers creates a wide variety of soulful sounds on this upbeat session with a rotating band members. Saxes, choir, strings mix and match for sweet sounds as on “Negative Truth” and make room for Miguel Alvarado’s tenor sax on a gospel mooded “Long Way Home.” Some soul rap is delivered by Saran Thompson on “Introlude” while a duet with the leader gives a minstrel on “In2rlude.” Latin pulses permeate “Maulana” and the leader gets hip on piano for “I Confess.” Upbeat and eager to please.
