Ben Bryden: Figure Of Eight

Tenor saxist Ben Bryden teams with Phil Robson/g, Desmond White/b and Raj Jayaweera/dr and guest tenorist Steven Delannoye for a collection of tues that range from fluid post bop to rock. Of the latter, Bryden rides over Jayaweera’s hard hitting drums and Robson’s metal strings on the acid heavy “The Art of Fielding” and “Spectre by the Door.” Things get more fluid as he flows over the rolling bass and drums on the fluid “The Cold Shoulder” and drifts on Robson’s echoes for “Goodbye.” Some rich cascading takes place on the graceful lope of “Auburn Skye” and as on all things tenor sax, the warmer the better as on the graceful “Sielebost.” Ranging between harmony and Hendrix.
