Tenor saxist Adam Larson supplies plenty of post bop muscle as he leads his quartet of Fabian Almazan/p-key-synth, Matt Clohesy/b and Jimmy MacBride/b through seven originals. Larson’s tone is filled with testosterone, assertive with Almazan’s synths on “false Pageantry” and angular as he stretches out on the harmonics of “Invisible Barriers.” The team builds up to a volcanic explosion on the tite track, with some rich lyricism provided on “Bright.” Soulful sounds emanate on “Twenty-Something” with a big supply of melodic weight lifting on “Boom-Bap.” Assertive melodicism.
