Tad Robinson: Real Street

If foot stomping soul is your thing, get a load of Tad Robinson, who sings like Al Green and plays the harp like John Mayall on this cookin’ session with Charles Hodges/B3, Leroy Hodges/b, Howard Grimes/dr, Joe Restivo/g, Kevin Anker/p and a horn team of Marc Franklin/tp with Kirk Smothers/sax that sounds like it just came out of a Let’s Get Together session.

The horns simmer, the organ hums and Robinson wails on smoky tunes like “Full Grown Woman,” “Changes” and “You Got It.” The funk factor gets ramped up with Robinson on the harp for a hot “Real Street” and with Restivo making the guitar strings cry on “You Are My Dream.” Robinson also pours his heart out on ballads such as “You Are My Dream” and the agonizing “Long Way Home.” Wanna see this guy with this band in tow! Any trips to So Cal?!?
