Kit Downes: Dreamlife of Debris

Dreamlike soundscapes are painted by Kit Downes, as she plays the piano and organ with Tom Challenger/ts, Stian Westerhus/g, Lucy Railton/cel and Sebastian Rochford/dr for a collection of sepia toned originals. The moods are a mix of ambient and impressionistic, with echoing horns on the meditative and harrowing “Bodes” and the gasping “Circinus.” Downes’ piano is eerie like a scene from Hound of the Baskervilles on the misty “Blackeye” with bowed strings, and icy on the organ as Challenger puffs on “Twin” and gasps on Sunflower.” Lily pads of piano float for “Pinwheel” and flutelike tones create a church atmosphere for the meditative and icy “M7.” Charcoal sketches.
