This compelling dvd-BluRay gives 110 minutes of the fascinating rise, fall and resurgence of R&B legend Teddy Pendergrass, possibly the last of the great soul singers we’ll ever hear. You are given a rich a fascinating story, told from the perspective of his mother, family, friends and fellow musicians, as well as clips from interview of Teddy himself. The story of his rise to fame, where he was able to have everything, and everyone, he wanted (and maybe more than he wanted), his wrestling with outside sources ranging from the black soul music mafia as well as the police force, leading to his near fatal car accident and then return to recording is a story that is both inspiring and forewarning. Beware of what you want, as you may get it. His mother, a rock of faith all the way through, is in some aspects the star of the documentary, as she took care of him after being abandoned by Teddy’s father, raising him in faith and helping him convalesce. We never know who our guardian angels are, or how gracious our God is no matter how we stray. A lesson worth learning.
