Pianist Sheldon Pickering takes on God’s Great Hymn Book and delivers intimate and dreamy meditations. His sublime touch is supplemented by folksy violin and guitar at times, making the eight traditional pieces as reflective as morning light shining through a stained glass window. Gentle and patient reads of “Swing Low” and a dainty “This Is My Father’s World” are filled with cheer with “I Need The Every Hour” filled with quiet pleadings. A thoughtful “Poor Wayfaring Stranger” and a reflective “Take Time To Be Holy” make a great argument for God speaking to us in a hushed voice.
