Belgian pianist put together a hip little team sans drummer that swings light and smooth. Joined together are Legnini alongside guitarists Rocky Gresset and Hugo Lippi with Thomas Bramerie holding down the pulse with the bass. The quartet shows its ability to get into a groove with the hep blues “The Jive” and “Stompin’ At The Savoy” with a pulse that is reminiscent of vintage Nat Cole. Legnini is elegant on the sublime “Doo Wee Doo” stately during the dreamy “Eterna Gioventu” and charming on “Breakefast At Dawn.” The strings gently sway for the samba “La Mangueira” and lurk along with Bramerie for “Night Birds.” Most clever is their take of David Bowie’s “Space Oddity” which is a wonderfully cogent excursion. These guys take a classic format to the next level.
