Like a AAA system in baseball, the International Pop Overthrow Music Festival has new artists from all over the world that are trying to hit the big leagues. This three disc, 69 song collection features the most recent collection of artists.
The most intriguing aspect this time around is how the bands seem to come from a few basic musical roots. Chiming guitars and harmonies from The Byrds are heard by bands such as The Rabbit,The Jeremy Band, The Top Boost and The Last Hurrah. Modern Beatles sounds are detected from Three Hour Tour and 70s rock a la Thin Lizzy is rooted in The Expected, The Bishop’s Daredevil Stunt Club and Steve Rosenbaum. Sometimes folksy feels are in the limelight, as The Details are an updated Kingston Trio and Eliaz is a singing minstrel, with Ulysses coming off as a troubadour from the Renaissance Faire. While the music is all impressive, it is mostly a continuation of what has been done before, with nothing new under the sun.
