Sleek and wispy like a reed in voice, Carolyn Lee Jones gives impressionistic moods on this soulful read of standards. She’s with a core team of Brad Williams/p-key, Jonathan Fisher-Jeff Plant/b, Andrew Griffith/dr, but brings in a Agatha Christie collection of guests that come and go in cameo performances. She gets lush and sensuous with Williams on “Close Your Eyes” while “Confession” is an intimate Spartan treat. Lupe Barerra’s brushes create a gentle aria for her on “My Foolish Heart” and the samba read of “Can’t Take My Eyes Off Of You” has her float with Daniel Pardo’s flute. Some rich brass brings soul to a laid back “When I Found You” while she’s hip with the big sounds of “That Old Black Magic” as she rides the percolating percussion like a long boarder. A flexible interpreter.
