Sharman Duran: Questioning Reality

Sharman Duran is a triple threat here, sing and playing piano on her own clever compositions with a team of Melecio Magdaluyo/woodwinds, Alex Baum-Aaron Germain/b and Bob Blankenship-Alan Hall/dr. Her voice is clear and she enunciates well with Magdaluyo’s tenor sax on the upbeat “It’s Nothing Personal” and the fun and sassy “Now I Can Afford The Whole Chicken” while they saunter together on the Latin “Lupe’s Ride.” With a soulful alto, Duran digs into “Who  Put Them In Charge” and gets impressionistic teamed with Magdaluyo’s soprano during “Four Exercises In Synergy.” Her piano playing is confident, skating on the lithe waltz of  “Ode To A Phone” and her reflective and poetic lyrics are rich observations as she tells stories like “Hues of “Perfection” and “After the Dream.” Strong and self-sufficient, this is a Sharman worth squeezing.
