Kansas City bred vocalist Scotty Dennis dips his sounds in a thick BBQ sauce on this easy to like blueser of a session. He’s got a gritty gospel sound to his voice, weaned on Sunday morning services as he preaches on twelve rollicking originals along with a toe tapping team of Willie Newell/p-key, Go-Go Ray/dr, Brandon Hudspeth/g and Jacque Garoutte/b as a core foundation. The team gets into a funky mood on “How Can You Love Someone” along with some gritty organ, while earth tones are splashed on during “I’m Gone” and the hip “It Don’t Cost You Nothing.” Mellow souls are soothed on “For Her Love” and the pretty sanctifier “Feel My Love” with the team shuffling to 12th and Vine on the juke jointer “Play Some Blues.” This guy’s got some finger licking good flavors on this session; bring a bib!
