Jared Pauley: On Capitol Street

Jared Pauley not only shows mastery of keyboards and bass on this wide ranging album, but his composing skills have as wide a breath of his chops, with his own tunes ranging from upbeat post bop to sizzling Latin currents. He mixes and matches with a wide palate of artists, including proto-bopping drummer Mike Clark, who cracks the whip with trumpeter Duane Eubanks on the soul salsa “Phiphi’s Pellets” as well as when cheerful voiced Tamuz Nissim joins in with the leader on electric piano for “I’ll Sing You This Melody.”

He teams with Nissim on piano, electric bass, some percussion, Jeremy Heuler’s acoustic bass and George Nazo’s guitar for a cheerful “Questions” while his acoustic piano jins with Adam Hutcheson’s alto sax and Cengiz Baysal’s drums for a percolating “Carry My Weight.” Brazilian seasonings shaken in by Hutcheson’s flute and Andrew Klein’s cajon join with Pauley carrying double duties on piano and bass for a fervent “Something In The Air” while the team shows its hip side on a soulful an fun “Jetson’s Tune” as humming organ and piano by the leader/composer dig a rivulet with Hutcheson’s alto sax on “Jetson’s Tune.”

The uniting factor of all of these compositions is the inherent optimism emanated from the hands of Pauley as he brings a smile to all the instruments that he touches, all the artists he teams with and all ears that hear. Check it out!
