Hammond B3er Gordon Beeferman leads a trio with guitarist Anders Nilsson and drummer Ches Smith on this album of originals. The band has an almost progressive rock feel, not unlike vintage Emerson, Lake and Palmer on the kinetic pieces like the driving “Play Before The Play” and the angular but lurking “Alley’s Allure.” Smith gets punchy with the leader on “Pistol/Pulse” with Beeferman throwing in some Medieval atmospheres on the rocker “Fathoms.” Nilsson delivers some rich forms over Smith’s brushes during “Vanishing Point” with lots of intricate interplay revealing impressive themes and variations. A prog rocker pleaser.
