Camila Meza and the Nectar Orchestra: Ambar

Originally from Chile, Camila Meza mixes sounds and moods from worldwide environs as she sings, plays guitar and arranges material of her own and some covers with a team of Eden Ladin/key, Noam Wiesenberg/b-arr, Keita Ogawa/dr and a string quartet.

The string team of Tomoko Omura/vi, Fun Chern Hwei/vi, Benjamin vn Gutzeit/va and Brian Sanders create Bartokian moods on a stirring title track and urgent “Kallfu” , brooding along Meza’s cries on the gypsy-mooded “Olha Maria.”  Gracious pizzicato’d support is brilliant with Meza singing in English on “Waltz #1” while the team sounds a dirge on her read of “This Is Not America.” A bit of indie pop gts dancing for “Milagre Dos Peixes” and a folksy feel is charming on “All Your Colors.” The album has a feel of displaying a wide variety of thoughtful moods, like walking through an art gallery of Impressionists.
