One of the underappreciated fusion guitarists, Scott Henderson releases an impressive and strong trio album with the team of bassist Romain Labaye/b and drummer Archibald Ligonnere. His guitar maks a wide range of tones, from the funky wacka-wooka with a backbeat on “Transatlantic” to a spacey and moody and dark “Blood Moon.” Ligonnere and Labaye give an torrid rock backbeat to Henderson’s fuzzy strings on “Happy Fun-Sing” and show h ow to lay back on the seductive synther “Fawn.” Henderson is at his bluesy best on “People Mover” and displays hip jazz pulsations during “Blue Heron Boulevard.” He always sounds assertive, in control and driving on all cylinders here. If you’re in LA, check the Baked Potato schedule, and you might get lucky and see him. Consider this disc an invitation.
