Rob Ryndak & Tom Lockwood featuring Brian Lynch: Gratitude

Pianist and percussionist  Rob Ryndak fronts a band with woodwind master Tom Lockwood and guest trumpeter/flugelhorn man Brian Lynch on this dozen originals. The remaining team of Sasha  Brusin/g, Karl EH Seigfried/b, Jeff Moehle/dr, Victor Gonzalez Jr/perc, Micah Rutschman/vib, Ran Koranda/cel and Steve Talaga/p make jazz accessible, with a Steely Dan feel for Lynch and Lockwood’s tenor on “Equilibrium” and a mellow soul of “Hermitage.” On alto sax, Lockwood gives a hip soul feel on “Jackie McFunk,” dedicated to the bright toned hard bopper, while the mood is soft with vibes on the title track. A hip reggae feel on “Dwelling In the Present” and a Latin “Whatever Happens” include rich reeds and Lynch’s horn in an ebullient feel, while Seigfried’s bass is fun and bluesy on “So Little Time.” Strong session and musicality.
