Jonathan Ng: Dreaming On My Feet

Here’s a new artist on the block that shows a lot of promise in a variety of ways. Jonathan Ng plays violin in the style of Stephane Grappelli in the Hot Club of France on this gypsy swinging ep along with Gabe Hall-Rodriguez/acc, Victor Horky/g, Ryan Donnelly/b and Max Holmberg/dr. His rich tone and wide as a zoot soot lapels vibrato gives an easy bohemian swing to bop classic “Jordu” and is off to the races on a fun and surprisingly frantic “You’d Be So Nice To Come Home To.” Ng also has an impressive voice, coming off like a 50s crooner with Donnelly on his own hip”Dreaming On My Feet” and relaxed with Hall-Rodriguez during “Honeysuckle Rose.”

He and his co-horts do a rich and reclining into to “After You’re Gone” before popping the clutch into an overdriving climax, with everyone showing some ‘hotcha’ chops. BTW-I’ve reviewed thousands of albums, and I’ve never before seen the number of beats per minute listed by the song. This guy makes things literally count! Lots of promise here. Any trips to So Cal?
