Warm toned LA-based guitarist Doug MacDonald brings together fellow Angelenos Kim Richmond/as-ss-fl, Harvey Newmark/b and Paul Kriebich/dr for a thoroughly enjoyable mainstream outing. MacDonald displays his rich textures and lyricism on a solo read of the tender “ The Things We Did Last Summer” and giving a lovely lead in to “If You Could See Me Now.” Kreibich’s brushes are suave along with Richmond’s flute on MacDonald’s hip bopper “I Want It” he’s crisp as he coaxes Richmond’s alto on the toe tapping “A Beautiful Friendship.” MacDonald shows his funky side his “Lakeside Drive” and suave serenity for a samba-ing “Girasol.” Not a weak nanosecond of sonic comfort food.
