San-Sao Trio: Novos Caminhos

Lea Freire plays flute, G flute and a bit of piano, Amilton Godoy sticks to the piano and Harvey Wainapel blows clarinet, soprano sax and alto sax on this charming collection of pastoral Brazilian chamber tunes. Clarinet and flute playfully dance on sublime tunes such as “Sem Do Nem Piedade,” “Mamulengo” and “Samba Do Guigui” with Godoy lively on the melodic “Deixa Estar” and a bluesy “O Batraquio” both featuring Wainapel’s warm alto melding with Freire. Wainapel’s clarinet is dainty on “Samba Do Arvore” while his soprano elegiac for “Fe.” The woodwinds swoop like pelicans for the elegant “Risco” and swing to “Teste De Som,” but all throughout the overall mood is folksy, cozy and fun. Look for this bon mot.

They are performing at Sam First Bar Aug 9. Take a trip there and take in the sublime sounds. https://www.samfirstbar.com/music
