The Forty Fours: Twist The Knife

A filling plate of the blues is served up by guitarist and vocalist Johnny Main, teamed with harpist Eric Von Herzen, bass player Mike Hightower, drummer Gary Ferguson and lead guitar man Junior Watson. They show a deep affinity for the South Side of Chicago with crying strings and wailing harp along with Main’s earthy vocals on “Sugar You,” “Helsinki Blues” and Watson’s howling fuzzy axe during Muddy Waters’ “Champagne and Reefer.” Main does a nice Dr. John in voice as he growls during the hot two stepper “Howlin’” and is ominous teaming with some vibrato’d strings on “Rosie.” The team boogaloos on the instrumental thunder of “Cuttin’ Deep” and has fun on the boogie woogie of “44’s Shuffle.” Faded blue jeans on this one wear well.
