The lovely pulses and fragrances of Brail’s choro music is exquisitely captured on this collection of songs by a pair of 7 string guitarists, Rogerio Souza & Edinho Gerber, along with percussionist Ami Molinelli. The joyful strings and precious pulses are used for a mix of originals and traditional pieces, and it is a lovely appetizer of fresh fruits and vegetables with delicate seasonings.
The 14 strings are able to converse as Molinelli taps out support on pandeiro, tamborim or Caixa de fosforos as on “Cho Em Niteroi” while the strings create graceful droplets of morning dew during “Lundo Da Marques De Santos.” Pieces like “To Fraco” and “Lamentos” prance and dance” while the joyful “Concericao” and festive “Brejeiro” make you want to skip along the sidewalk. The melding of lyrical strums and picks with gentle but driving percussion by Molinelli as on “Ali Baba” or Janniquinha” are sublime seductions, whereas the waltzing “Terna Saudade” features only the two guitarists in a celestial atmosphere. If they go on tour, don’t miss this treat!
