Dan Navarro is a throwback to the days of 70s singer/songwriters; unpretentious, relaxed, folksy with a tale to tell. He composes most of the material here, while making pieces like Jimmy Webb’s “Witchita Lineman” and Billy Idol’s “Sweet Sixteen” all his own in a casual manner. He mixes and matches with a group of guests including Steve Postell/g-voc, David Glaser/mand, Jon Ossman/b, Brendan Buckley/dr and Phil Parlapiano/p-acc-key, creating dark moods on the sliding “New Years Day” and murky “Let Her Ride” or ramblin’ along on ‘You Drove Me Crazy” with Janiva Magness joining in. Rural moods are on a country road for “Straight to the Heart of Me” with a Gordon Lightfoot of a voice throughout, particularly on the thoughtful “Let Her Ride.” A stroll down the backroads of your mind.
