Guitarist Doug MacDonald creates a peanut butter and jelly classic Hammond B3 combo with Carey Frank/B3, Bob Sheppard/ts and Ben Scholz/dr for some sublimely swinging standards and originals. MacDonald comes from the Herb Ellis school of strings-warm toned, lyrical and richly rhythmic, as he is soft and delicate on his intro to “Too Late Now” or gentle for his solo outing of “Nina Never Knew/Indian Summer.” With Sheppard’s breathy tenor, the band is sleek on “It’s You Or No One” while Frank and Scholz waltz the team through “Jazz For All Occasions” and are hip on the bopping pulse of “Centerpiece.” Classy!
