The core team of Tm Smith/b, Marcelo Perez/dr, Roddy Smith/g, Martin Bejerano/p and Murph Aucamp/perc make up Senor Groove, but they invite a group of guests like the session was a block party. Bopper Brian Lynch sizzles on the peppy Brazilian “Linville Falls” along with Ed Calle’s hip sax, with Argentinian Roxana Ahmed is sweet and soulful with strings and keys on “Drume Negrita.” The rhythm section sizzles as on th sleek “3.5 X 2” and simmers with Smith’s line for the title track as Tim Gordon’s flute cruises like a ’57 Chevy. The album closes with a pair of funky pieces, hitting the disco on “Second Time Around” with some EWI wizardry from John Daversa and the percussive “C100” courtesy of Aucamp. Lots of various side streets for this V8 band to veer around on.
