Michael Jerome Browne: That’s Where It’s At

Relaxed and intimate blues are served up by guitarist/vocalist Michael Jerome Browne as he brings back the acoustic side of the guitar on this collection of tunes. He has a nice rural sound to his picking on instrumentals like “Don’t Ask Me Why” and the cozy “Curtis’ Blues” while his voice is street raspy while he slides along on “Black Nights’ and barks out a gospel’d “Somebody Have Mercy.” He does a handful of duets as well, going to the delta with Harrison Kennedy on “Pharoah,” giving a sermonette with Eric Bibb on “Everybody Ought to Treat A Stranger Right” and growling with Roxanne Potvin” during “Remember When.” Unpretentious strings and voice taking you to country back porches.
