Mary Lane: Travelin’ Woman

As Mary Lane states in the liner notes, “If you don’t dig the blues you have a hole in your soul.” Lane gives a 10 song set of vintage Chicago blues with a mix and match team of Larry Beers-Travis T. Bernard/dr, Jim Tullio/g-b, Eddie Shows/harp, Shedrick Davis-Bill Ruppert/g and Phil Miller /slg while taking you to the back porch on an earthy “Make Up Your Mind” with Colin Linden on dobro. She tells a story with blue hues on “Travelin’ Woman” and “Some People Say I’m Crazy” and gets down and dirty for “Bad Luck and Trouble.” Even her “love” songs are filled with gristle, such as “Ain’t Nobody Else” and “Let Me Into Your Heart” and she’s a gas on  “Leave That Wine Alone.” Rib sticking sounds.
