The folksy blues team of Harry Manx on banjo and vocals with Steve Marriner on electric guitar, harp and vocals (no mention the role of the faithful dog on the cover) mixes and matches with Clayton Doley/B3, Moe Duella/dr, Jim Bowskill/vi and Sahaja Singers/voc for a rural read of sin and salvation on the back porch. The team is blue for the boogie as Manx rasps out “Nothing” and is heartfelt on the homespun “Rise and Fall In Love” with Bowskill’s VFW-tuned violin. Manx slides like Ricky Henderson on the earthy “Rattlesnake Blues” and with Marriner at the helm and voice give a testifying blues gospel “Death Have No Mercy In This Land.” A sincere “My Lord” has Marriner testifying with The Marrinaires supplying the church choir with the eerie “Wish I Had Answered” creating a foreboding mood. A trip through the back country roads leading to juke joints and intimate Sunday morning services.
