I was weaned on the guitar sounds of Django Reinhardt, so any guitarist that features that influence has already won my heart. Jacopo Delfini drinks from the Hot Club waters with Claudio Ottaviano/b, Mauro Negri/cl, Andrea Aloisi/vi, Michele Frigoli/g and guest Alex Carreri/b on this collection of originals inspired by the Belgian gypsy as well as a wondefu lrendiion of the classic “Nuages.” Delfini’s touch is clean and joyful, cozy on “Too Many Cats Around” and the nostalgic “I’ll Never Smile Without You” while bringing some hotcha two steps for “Enniology” and “Spring Lunch.” The team gets folksy as Delfini sings casually on “ID” and sways to “Misty Blues.” It’s encouraging to hear fresh and new material in the Hot Club of France vein instead of reworking the standards. Bravo! Any trips to the States?
