Pianist Giovanni Guidi leads a loose and frisky quintet with Thomas Morgan/b, Joao Lobo/dr, Francesco Bearzatti/ts and Roberto Cecchetto/g on a collection of originals that capture a wide swath of moods. The moods get rushed and jagged like a Neopolitan traffic jam as Bearzatti sears through the rapid “No Taxi” and he cries over Guidi’s intricate fingerings on the eerie “Postudium And A Kiss.” The team is breezy with added effects by Cecchetto during “Johnny Liar” with some swaying of the rhythm team on the flowing “Ti Stimo.” A heartfelt eulogy to the recently departed trumpeter is delicately delivered by the leader on “Tomasz” while the team creating a cathartic rubato for “15th Of August.” Visceral productions.
