Aaron Lington: Secondary Impressions

Baritone saxist Aaron Lington creates some wondrous moods on a collection of mostly duet sonatas with pianist Victoria Lington on this collection of modern compositions. Lington’s tone and range are highly impressive, sounding almost like a string section on a solo performance of “Wings” that riches highs and lows with the ease of a trapeze artist. The collection of duets are dominated by two modern pieces, the Concerto for Baritone Orchestra and Secondary Impressions.

The former is a 3 pieces opus that includes soft piano on “Andantino” and lovely teamwork on “Moderato” with an upbeat and optimistic “Allegro” featuring classy tones. The latter pieces is a bit darker, with dark ivories during  “Le Compositeur Englouti” and eerie shadowes for ”Invertible Introspection.” Ambitious in its simplicity and virtuosity.
