Lucas Pino’s nine member team creates gentle chamber jazz pulses as a rebellion against the “cold, unfeeling” computer as described in his liner notes. Pino plays tenor sax and bass clarinet along with a horn team of Alex Lore/as, Mat Jodrell/tp, Nick Finzer/tb and Andrew Gutauskas/bs as the rhythm team of Rafal Sarnecki/g, Glenn Zaleski/p, Desmond White/b and Jimmy MacBride/dr create soft cirrus clouds as on the lyrical “Antiquity” or on the floating “Film At 11.” The team shows it has bop chops with some rich soloing by Lore and Sarnecki during “Horse of a Different Color” as the percussion sizzles on a Latin “Sueno De Gatos.” Pino’s tenor is thick and rich for the rumbling “Baseball Simulator 1000” and his bass clarinet is a wonderous counter to Camila Meza’s ethereal voice on the impressionistic “Frustrations.” This is a team with a heart.
