Fay Claasen & WDR Big Band: Dutch Songbook

Songs from Holland and beyond are given a jazz feel as rich toned vocalist Fay Claasen teams with the WDR Big Band for modern takes of songs from the Netherland. She sings in dutch on a bluesy “Aan De Amsterdamse Grachen” along with a rich flugelhorn solo by Rob Bruynen,” while delivering a passionate aria on “Zonder Jou” with pianist Cor Bakker. The team gets rocky with Peter Tirhuis’ guitar on “Five Up High”  ad Claasen flexes some muscle, and whimisical for “Keep Me In Your Dreams” as the sections are rich and flavorful. “Opzij, Opzj, Opzig” features muted horns and Claasen in a breezy mood, while she creeps into dark shadows on “Reach for the Rose.” Fresh sounds that are accessible.
