Still going strong at age 88, Betty Bryant is still able to sing like an imbiber of the Fountain of Youth as she sings and plays the piano with a rotating rhythm team and horn section hat includes Tony Gurrrero/tp, Robert Kyle/ts-fl, Ryan Dragon/tb, Jeff Driskill/as and Jay Mason/bs on a collection of standards and originals. He fingers are still nimble, dancing with pep on “Oh, Lady Be Good” and lovely with Kyle’s flute on her “My Beloved.” Her voice is warm, leathered and street wise with the sax section on the up tempo “Love Came and Went” and intimately personal as she goes it alone on “It’s Hard to Say Goodbye.” Her vibrato teams well with Kyle’s tenor on “But Beautiful” and is cozy on a duet of “Just You, Just Me” with Kleber Jorge. She’s still got a lot to say, and knows how to say it. Like a fine wine!
