Tim Haldeman: Open Water As A Child

Tim Haldeman plays tenor sax, flute and piano as he leads an intuitive band of John Goode/words-voc, Dan Bennett/as, Justin Walter/tp, Jordan Schug/cel, Jonathan Taylor/dr and Ben Willis/b through five communicative and free originals. Goode recites a dark poem of gllme over heavy piano chords and buzzy horns on “A Song For Strangers” with the rhythm team trudging with desolation under the brooding tenor on  “As Good As Gone.” Haldeman wails while Taylor flails on “Take This Drifter” Goode gets more morbid in lyrics with contrasting pretty piano to close out the night at the beatnik lounge on “Bird’s On Fire.” Only a reading from  Jack Kerouac is missing from this night of free form musings.
