Stephan Thelen greates impressionistic soundscapes with his fractal, tritone and blue sky guitar, along with his organ, samples and granular loops on these five sonic wallpapers. He uses the musical paintbrushes of Markus Reuter, Jon Durant, Matt Tate, and David Torn who add in electric guitar, live looping, U8 touch guitar, cloud guitar and U8 touch bass guitar with rhythmic support by Manuel Pasquinelli/dr, Benno Kaiser/dr and Andi Pupato/perc.
The musical pieces feature two songs around 9 minutes, and 3 from 13-18, with spacey soundscapes, floating strings and thick electronica creating King Crimsonesque themes on “Briefing For A Descent Into Hell” and “Urban Nightscape.” Tensile guitar riffs and droplets and rock beats are felt on “Fractal Guitar” and the palpable “Radiant Day” while fuzzy strings and hard beats create musical trudgings on “Road Movie.” More than ambient and leaning towards progressive metal.
