The two sax lead team of altoist Benjamin Deschamps and tenorist Frank Lozano join together with bassist Sebastien Pellerin and drummer Louis-V.Hamel for a free flowing collection of post bop that is reminiscent of vintage Lee Konitz and Warne Marsh. The intricate lines weave in and out on the crips “Rules of Compressing” and the peppy “My Steps.” The team gets loose and free as the drums push forward on “No I Didn’t” and dashes of Tristano are palpable on the spacious “Cool Cats.” Pellerin keeps things together and cohesive for the subdued “Interlude 1” and clippety clopped “Double Meaning.” The sax tones are icy cool and filled with smoky breath. Lured in with subtlety and swing.
