Jared Sims plays both baritone and tenor sax, leading a quartet of Chris McCarthy/p, Alex Tramblay/b and Evan Hyde/dr through five modern originals. His baritone is thick and rich with some sleek piano and guiding cymbals on “Brooklyn Tea.” Trembly and Hyde create sparks for Sims’ husky tenor on “Tribeca tap Bar” as the rhythm team drives deep along-McCarthy’s splashy piano on “Wetlands Preserved.” The band has a warm and loose feel akin to side ESP era Miles Davis, hip in p ulse and open in harmonies. Rewarding on many levels.
