Drummer Dan Aran leads a team of Itai Kriss/fl, Adam Birnbaum/p, Luke Sellick/b, Zafer Tawil/oud, Marcos Lopez/perc and Jainardo Batista/voc through a bopping mix of originals and jazz standards. The team hiply swings as Kriss floats to ¾ time on “Five Corners” while the percussion sizzles on the samba’d “Jaxter and the Shark.” Tawil’s oud ads Middle Eastern mystique to “Gits” and Horace Silver’s “Peace” with Birnhbaum striding well on the pulsating “Sketch for Ayala” and showing swagger on the hip “Blues For Tsofi.” Most clever is Aran creating a Latin pulse for a rich read of “Hello Young Lovers” and the team getting cozy on “Like Someone In Love.” Strong outing.
