Lone Justice: The Western Tapes, 1983

The roots rock band Lone Justice (Maria McKee/g-voc, Ryan Hedgecock/g-voc, Dave Harrington/b, Don Willens/dr and David Mansfield/pst-fid) made a name for itself in the mid 80s. This 5 song ep from 1983 is mostly previously unissued material from their fledgling days, and it’s filled with fun sounds from the Moose Lodge. McKee has a Carlene Carter growl on the two stepper “Working Late” and struts with the chorus on a Cumberland Gapped “Don’t Toss Us Away” while going honky tonkin’ on “Drugstore Cowboy.” A dash of Creedence Clearwater is felt on “I See It” and wonderful Cajun rock drives “The Train.” A nice intro to a team worth revisiting.
