Continuing the celebration of Satoko Fujii’s birthday, the adventurous pianist teams up for a duet album with Alister Spence, who brings his Fender Rhodes, preparations and effects to the foil. The seven pieces are wild and ambitious conversations, an as the back picture suggests, has Fujii using essentially every element of the piano for affect. More noodles than a Little Tokyo soup kitchen are found on the spacey “Narvi” which has Fujii veering through the wizardry, and for 14 minutes the piano strings are banged on, tugged at and strummed on “Paaliaq” and for three minutes on “Dione.” Piano and electric dashes fly back and forth on “Telesto” and celestial moods float on “Methone.” Audio Jackson Pollock?
