Clear toned vocalist Robyn Spangler teams up with Todd Schroeder/p-key, Tim Christensen/b, Chris Jago/dr, Tony Mandracchia/g and Robert Kyle/ts for a collection of more obscure Christmas tunes. The wise decision to mostly stay away from the Natal Classics works well here, making the music feel fresh and new. She carries a torch on “Please Come Home For Christmas,’ sounds classy in a duet with Donny Most on “It’s Beginning To Look A Lot Like Christmas” and has fun swinging on “Who Spiked My Eggnog?” Schroeder does some nice work on a Latin take of “Santa Claus Is Coming To Town” and the team sounds homey on “Christmas Is.” Sweet as the smell of pine trees.
