Cool toned guitarist Phil Schurger brings together a subtle and low key team of Greg Ward/as, Jeff Greene/b and Clif Wallace/dr for a half dozen pastoral pieces ranging around the 10 minute clock. The team gives a low key gallop for the intricate lines of “Scorpio” and gets its most assertive during the dramatic “Nogah.” Ward’s brightish tone is bluesy as bass and guitar team together on “Anikulapo” and the autumnal “Yoruba” while Wallace guides the team with his cymbals on the graciously galloping “Motion.” Warm embers.
