Six stringed electric bassist Flavio Lira delivers a swinging mix of Latin Jazz on this delightfully lithe session. He mixes and matches with a plethora of percussionists along with Ryan Fedak/vib, Gracialiano Zambonin/dr, Nacho Gonzalez/g, Alexei Tsiganov/p, Fernando Brandao/fl and a collection of other guests.
Lira’s bass is both pulsating and richly melodic as he dances along the themes of “Sto9” with Edmar Colon’s baritone sax and gently pushes the brass section of Yoshie Nakayama and Jon Weidley on a rich take of “All the Things You Are.” Some clever synth sounds by Anibal Cruz team with Naty Hernandez’s ethereal voice and Howard Levy’s harmonica on “Cumbamba” and the team lead by Ryan Fedak’s vibes glides through a take of Tom Jobim’s “Favela” with a sensuous samba groove. Lover conversations between Lira and the flute of Fernando Brandao create a pastoral yet Latin baroque mood on the swaying “Bass Fugue.” The irresistible percussion teamed with Lira’s guidance on the strings make this a sauntering delight.
