Popa Chubby: Prime Cuts

Offering 28 of handpicked tunes from his past 28 years, the stout Popa Chubby shows his beefy prime cuts on this collection made to by played “Loud…often..and always.” Chubby plays guitar with a vengeance and growls out the vocals on every track, with support including Steve Holley-Larry Crockett/dr, Nicholas Damato-deab Zucchero-Kris Jefferson/b, Dave Keyes-Mike Latrell-Seth Farmer/keys among others with Popa hitting the skins and bass once in awhile as well.

Always set in the hue of blue, he gives rap like lyrics to the funky “Life is a Beatdown”  and can even give a gospel mood on a concert take of “Hallelujah.” He gets Hendrixy on the 6 string on a thick “Hey Joe” and his strings bend and wail over the B3 on “Grown Man Crying Blues.” His work on the slide guitar is a red clay joy, getting earthy with raspy voice on “Daddy Played the Guitar (and Mama Was a Disco Queen” as well as on the nasty “Somebody Let the Devil Out.” A good mix of the rich and ribald shades of blues.
