Lee Palmer: Horns & Harps

Lee Palmer mixes his rich voice and bluesy guitar with a team of Iain McNally/g, Sean O’Grady/dr, Alec Fraser Jr/b, Steve O’Connor/p-key, Turner King/sax, Roly Platt/harp and Chris Ayries/voc for a rousing collection of bluesy originals and a couple covers. Of the latter, he makes a ringer of “You Don’t Know Me” with a gentle waltz pulse, while “Isn’t That So” mixes soulful keys and sax. Platt’s harp wails on the honky Tonkin “Waitin’ On the Train” with the team sounding Memphis STAXY with King on the shuffling “My Baby Again.” O’Connor gives a New Orleans pulse as Palmer sounds like a sage on “Life Rolls ON” and the leader shows his chops along with King’s tenor on toe tapping “Rockin’ Strawberry Jam.” Timeless hues from a Canadian troubadour.
