Anthony Geraci: Why Did You Have To Go?

Pianist & B3er Anthony Geraci mixes and matches artists and singers for a wide ranging palate of the blues on this wonderfully earthy session. Most of the colors range from the South, with a short side trip to Chicago with guests that include Kid Ramos/g, Willie J. Campbell/b, Jimi Bott/dr, Ronnie Earl/g and Sax Gordon/ts. You get some Memphis soul as Sugar Ray Norcia groans over the horns on the title track, while Geraci taps into his inner Professor Longhair as he strides through “Hand You Your Walking Shoes” with Dennis Brennan, “Long Way Home” including Sugaray Rayvord rasping along with Beadle and Doug Woolverton/tp and “Fly On the Wall” featuring Willie J. Law searing through with vocals. The rhythms shuffle on “Don’t The Grass Look Greener” while the duet of Laws with Geraci on “Baptized in the River Yazoo” is a gospel moaning delight. Most jazzy is the hep closer “A Minor, Affair” but the entire session will get your toes tapping. This is a good one!
