The Blue Dahlia Family: La Tradition Americaine

Musicians from all over the US and the world get together for this highly intriguing mix of sounds and cultures. Songwriter Dahlia Dumont from New York and Israel co lead with Daniel Alba and George Saenz and a Cecil B Demille cast to mix sounds of Traditional America, reggae, bohemian France and beyond on this rich and textured collection.

This smorgasbord of sounds results in Dumont singing in French during a Cajun reggae on “Mai Tai” and with some bohemian ukulele during an indie “La Fontaine.” Folksy Appalachian bluegrass with sweet violins are delivered on “I See Trees Differently” and the team gets jazzy with Dumont giving English lyrics with a Norah Jones nuance during “Reasonable.” The title track evokes a gypsy atmosphere with pop sensibilities and you even get a dash of African hand percussion on the lilting “Influence III.” If the UN could cooperate as well as these ex-pats, maybe some political problems could be solved. Highly recommended!
