POP AND  HIP HOP JAZZ…FKA Jazz: Stereotype Threat, Vandell Andrew: Thirty

Urban sounds of R&B team with jazz ideas.

FKAjazz plays a strong tenor sax and even sings with soul on this hip hop boper with Marcus Machado/g, Lex Lemon/b, Julian Litwack/g, JSWISS/voc and a handful of guests. Fred Thomas give rap voice toa a synth urban beat on the title track, and JSWISS teams with turntables and electconics on “Storytime Interlude” and a backbeating “No Way to Go.” FKAjazz’s tenor is rich on the dreamy “Brighter Days” and the team gets into a gospel groove on “Wander as I Wonder” with some heavy thunking on “F.A.F” Electronics and sweat are in abundance.

Vandell Andrew plays the alto sax keeps it smooth and soulful with a mix of keyboards, programmers, synths, voices and guitar. Synth grooves form a foundation for “The Groove” and a mellow “Chill AF.” Vandell has a sweet tone which shines on the soft “Somehow,” the romantic “Thinkin’ About You” and the delicate “Daydream” with Marcus Anderson’s flute floating along. Things get more peppy on the brassy “You and Me” and a bluesy “All I Need” with Julian Vaughn’s bass snapping away. Smooth sailing.
